It seeks to, initially, reduce the negative impact of buildings and, secondly, to conserve energy and enhance the ecology. UN agrees 17 sustainable development goals

UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon                                                         SUMMARY The goals aim, by 2030, is to eradicate extreme poverty, promote prosperity  and people's well-being, while protecting the environment.      Late last night, the United Nations concluded  its negotiations  on the post-2015 development agenda. THE SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS TODAY IN NEW YORK.  . The first-ever U.S. Cities SDG Index . The Index ranks the 100 most populous U.S. cities, using Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), based on their performance on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Results show that all U.S. cities, even those at the top of the Index, have far to go to achieve the SDGs.    The U.S. Cities SDG Index uses 49 indicators from 16 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals – goals that were agreed upon by all countries at the United Nations in September 2015. The Index provides a more holistic and comprehensive assessment of sustainable development challenges faced by U.S. cities than available through other metrics. Sustainability and Sustainable Development - What is Sustainability and what is Sustainable Development?     The definition of sustainability is not nearly as simple as it might seem, likewise with the definition of sustainable develope- ment, This is best illustrated by the fact that there are over 200 different definitions to what is sustainable development. However, the most common definition was defined by the Brundtland Commission in 1987, who documented the sustainable development definition as:   "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
