THE SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS TODAY IN NEW YORK.  . The first-ever U.S. Cities SDG Index . The Index ranks the 100 most populous U.S. cities, using Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), based on their performance on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Results show that all U.S. cities, even those at the top of the Index, have far to go to achieve the SDGs.    The U.S. Cities SDG Index uses 49 indicators from 16 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals – goals that were agreed upon by all countries at the United Nations in September 2015. The Index provides a more holistic and comprehensive assessment of sustainable development challenges faced by U.S. cities than available through other metrics. What is sustainability? The three pillars of sustainability But what is ...

Methods of Sustainable Development Goals in local communities and everywhere. Why are people not participating more enthusiastically in the widespread implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals?  How can we engage communities everywhere to make the United Nations’ Global Goals their  local goals?  How can individuals and collectives contribute to achieving ‘Agenda 2030’? Among many activists, grassroots organizations and even some international NGOs the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been branded as the result of a top-down UN process. Failure to successfully implement previous agendas has damaged belief in the achievability of such multi-lateral agreements. Something needs to change if the SDGs are to be more successful than ‘Agenda 21’ or the ‘Millennium Development Goals’. So far, too many on-the-ground actors are still hesitant to get behind the SDGs. The engagement with ‘ Agenda 2030 ’ is currently too slow to catalyze the magnitude of cha...
Northeast Regional Center for Rural   Development Goals    The Center's goals were chosen from input by the Northeast Center's Board of Directors and the Directors of the four Regional Rural Development Centers. These key issue areas represent the concepts driving the mission, vision, and the strategy for rural development research and extension projects. Center funded projects must address at least one of the following five goals. Goal 1: Improving Economic Competitiveness, Diversity and Adaptability of Small and/or Rural Communities Major socio-economic shifts such as globalization are affecting the ability of small towns and rural places to maintain productive and sustainable economies. Rural economies are particularly taxed in adapting to these changes because of their small size, geographic isolation, low population density, lack of employment diversification, and traditional dependence on natural-resource based industries and routine manufacturing...
